CALVIN CHAN

Lawyer, Litigation Team Leader

CALLED TO THE BAR: 2017 (Ontario)
TEAM MEMBER SINCE: 2019

Calvin maintains a broad civil litigation practice providing legal representation in disputes related to employment, estates, construction, real estate and commercial matters.  He also consults regularly with his business clients regarding a variety of workplace matters, including the preparation of workplace polices, employment contracts and advising on best practices.  Legal disputes can be complicated – Calvin’s aim is to assist his clients by making things as simple as possible.

Calvin graduated from Windsor Law in 2016 and began his legal career a Legal Aid Ontario funded clinic supporting low-income workers in the area of employment law.  Before his interest in the law Calvin spent time training, coaching and competing in badminton at a provincial level, having coached numerous Ontario Winter Games and OFSAA athletes along the way.

During law school, Calvin sought to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application which led him to volunteer at the legal clinics providing legal aid services to low-income residents as well as participate in various moot competitions. Calvin’s practical approach to his legal education was recognized when he was awarded the Cassells Brock Centennial Prize in Practice Skills during his final year at Windsor Law.

Calvin practices primarily in the area of civil litigation at WARDS LAWYERS PC and provides legal representation for clients in a wide variety of disputes including employment, construction, estates, landlord and tenant, real estate disputes and commercial matters.  In addition to litigation services, Calvin also provides support and advisory services to employers on their workplace matters, including preparing written workplace policies, employment contracts reviews and a review of workplace best practices.

Calvin has also volunteered on various local non-profits boards, including at VCCS Employment Services and the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes.

Outside of the office, Calvin will be spending time with friends and family, playing and talking about sports and serving at his Church.
