I’m profoundly proud of what we have created at WARDS LAWYERS PC, especially those who make it run so successfully - our support group and our clients. They are all very important and we could not do what we do without them.
I never thought I would work side-by-side with my wife - it seems to be working out just fine.
I also rely heavily on Melissa, our CEO and arguably the best family law clerk in Ontario, who keeps us focused on innovation, progress and the highest professional standards every day – truly a leader.
When I started WARDS LAWYERS PC, I had one laptop computer, one desk (with one fake computer on it) and basically no idea how to run a law firm. They didn't teach me how to run my own firm in law school or at my big firm in Toronto. My first file was a mortgage refinancing transaction, something that typically is not overly complicated and handled smoothly by our real estate clerk. However, I had no idea what I was doing and no experience in this area at that time. I spent about twenty hours trying to figure out the file and get it done. There were a few tears, I admit, during the process. I think in the end I billed about $200 for about twenty-five hours of work time by me. I remember thinking: "What have I done? Why did I quit my litigation job at my Toronto firm!" It worked out well for me in the end, as I proudly own a very successful and thriving law firm. But the beginning certainly was a little shaky and I will never forget that experience when I first opened the doors to WARDS LAWYERS PC.
Things got much better; I hired people who knew what they were doing. We grew, got far busier and built a successful firm. Then came Haunt Your Home in 2009, which is another one of my proudest and most memorable moments; namely, when we ran Haunt Your Home that first year and started to receive so much positive feedback from our community, especially kids.

I work with my wife (Karissa) - that's a good thing, despite what you may think. My three wonderful children: Austin, Abigale and Dexter (all of whom love to come to the office and play 'lawyer' like Dad, when they regularly mess up everyone's desks)

Surround yourself with smart, dedicated, innovative and creative people. That is how I built this Firm. Today, this Firm helps clients all over North America, with exceptional service. We focus on our community - giving back to the place that has helped us grow and be successful. I am very proud of this place and the people who make it so successful in providing professional and progressive legal services.
